It takes something pretty big to cause any little person to take on a Goliath like ECC.  In this case, it’s neither bravado nor insolence.  It is conviction, plain and simple, together with a strong sense of loss - loss to the community and personal loss of a sphere of service to others which has been the website author’s ‘job’ since retirement.  Jim hastens to add that it is a job you pay to do, and not a job for which you are paid.

What is motivating David to take on Goliath?

Unsurprisingly, Goliath just brushes David aside, refusing to take him seriously and excluding him from negotiations on the strangest of grounds.  As David is focused far more on the interests of the Club and Community than his own, he is undaunted by the giant.  His belief in equity makes him bold. He likens the Council’s behaviour regarding Summerway to that of affluent parents who ply their children with money and toys, while denying them the love they crave.  The youth of the locality need beneficial contact with people who care for them, and not mere play areas, MUGAs and tennis courts.
