Email Groups

Communication within the Summerway Club is now chiefly by email and telephone.  Following the ‘constructive eviction’ of the Club from its traditional premises, the noticeboard in the pavilion is no longer available.  The post is used only very occasionally as stamps are expensive when used in quantity.

There are different levels of communication required within the Club, so addresses are placed into one of five groups as is appropriate to the interest of the addressee(s) in the Club. These groups are listed below with an explanation of each. This is followed by a definition of Summerway Watchers, which is sent by email to each new member of the group.

Summerway Committee.  These are the members of the Summerway Junior Lawn Tennis Club Management Committee, together with anyone who the Committee Members feel should be privy to all information relating to negotiations and the campaign for survival.

Summerway Families.  This group consists of the families with Playing Members who were in membership during 2006, plus a small number who were members in earlier recent years.  2006 membership has been extended to cover 2007 without cost as the Club cannot function as it should without premises, and so has little to offer in practice under the present circumstances.

Summerway Supporters.  Past members and those with an active interest in the survival of Summerway Tennis form this group.  Supporters are characterised by their goodwill towards the Club and their desire to see Tennis being made available to everyone in the community, and not just those who happen to be more affluent.

Summerway Watchers.  Those belonging to this group have responded to an invitation from the site administrator (Jim) to join it.  The group is quite numerous, but Jim is always ready to listen to the views of others, and values advice from those he respects.  Many of the Watchers do not have any active connections with Tennis, but are interested in the wider issues of democracy and the situation faced by the Club.

Summerway Web Watchers.  This is a group which is open to anyone who happens upon this site and wishes to maintain an interest in the Summerway situation.  Besides keeping an eye on this website, Web Watchers are sent occasional emails which may be of interest.  Anyone inclined to join this group should email the site administrator with a request to be added to the group.

SUMMERWAY WATCHERS

For administrative purposes, there have been three groups of people who have been involved in trying to encourage Local Government to continue the partnership which has made the Summerway Junior Lawn Tennis Club possible:

Summerway Committee: Those leading the negotiations, and party to all the nitty-gritty and direction of the Club's campaign for survival.

Summerway Families: Those who are currently active members of the Club, who receive practically all news and are kept fully informed.

Summerway Supporters: Past members and others who care about the Club, who receive only the major items of information and news.

To these, a new group is being assembled which is being designated as Summerway Watchers. Jim feels called to put his head above the parapet, and hesitates to speak for others as we all see things differently to some degree. He has no wish to contravene anyone's independence. Jim realises, however, that many folk do share similar views to his own, and he would value any contribution or criticism that guides him in his endeavour to improve the way democracy works locally or nationally -- in particular, with regard to Summerway, which he feels has the potential to become a cause celebre.

Summerway Watchers undertake no obligations. They will not be swamped with emails, and are welcome to disregard whatever is too lengthy for the time they are willing to devote. Obviously, there may be periods of fairly high email activity when things are happening. It would be appreciated if watchers would keep an eye on www.summerway.org  at intervals convenient to themselves. He is anxious that whatever he says, writes or does is properly balanced, not scandalous or libellous, and is totally free of all malice. It would be greatly appreciated if watchers informed Jim of anything which strikes them as being either wrong or unhelpful to the cause. Furthermore, Jim would be grateful for any support Watchers are able to give of their own account and own individual motivation, such as sending emails, writing letters, making representation, etc. to our MP, those in local government, newspapers, ombudsmen, etc.

Summerway Watchers email addresses will be kept strictly confidential, are not kept in an Address Book which is a frequent target of hackers, and will only be used in the Bcc: field -- thus preserving their confidentiality and anonymity. Jim is very security conscious in matters regarding email and the web.
