Pinhoe Road is one of the City’s trunk roads.  Traffic needs to move freely, so provision for pedestrians is best kept to a minimum with complete safety assured. Children particularly deserve to be shielded as far as possible from its hazards and dangers, yet ECC has resolved to expose our youngsters.

Why is ECC deliberately exposing a potentially safe area to the many dangers of a busy main road?

When the new Summerway Park was a school playing field, DCC erected a high barrier to protect it from the main road for important reasons.  The City has chosen to remove this protection, compromising the confidence of local parents in the field’s safety.  The new access the Council has created could, in due course, draw children across the main road. Hardly a good idea!  Also, the creation of the new entrance facilitates the free movement of vandals.  The Council sadly chose to ignore or override advice.  Arrogance, perhaps? There has to be a reason for this apparent madness.  Could ECC have a ‘thing’ about cycle paths, blinding it to all else?
