Showing Support for Summerway

This is a personal invitation from Jim to anyone reading this website, and who is feeling that the children have been given a very raw deal.  If you wish to show your support in a very practical way, please email your views as shown below.

If you live in Exeter .....

Please email the local Exeter City Councillors for the ward in which you live. Each ward has either two or three Councillors.  Stating your views and asking your questions to each individually might produce interesting differences in the replies. Try to obtain the personal views of each Councillor, rather than a politically agreed response, as it is unlikely that every Councillor is as insensitive to the needs of the City’s children and families as the Council’s officers have proved themselves to be.  The Councillors should have the power to correct this injustice, unless Council policy is being effectively determined by the Officers.

If you decide to email, it would be appreciated if you would add Jim’s email address to the Cc: field to make him aware of your views and queries. He will share them with the members of the Summerway Committee, keeping your email address confidential as he does so.  Jim’s email address is:

You can find the contact details for each of your ward Councillors, including an email address for those offering the convenience of this means of contact, from Exeter City Council’s website.  Simply click the appropriate photograph on the web page displayed after clicking the link below:

If you live outside Exeter .....

Please email Alan Caig, who is the Exeter City Council’s Head of Leisure & Museums.  The reason for choosing Alan as the recipient of your email is that he is the Council Officer who has been fielding the letters of support, even when they are addressed to a specific Councillor or to the Councillors as a body.  It may be necessary to restate your views and ask your questions again if the response you receive does not seem appropriate.  You may wish to probe deeper if what you are told about the Club seems improbable, or if the glowing praise of ECC’s efforts and achievements seems rather fanciful or irrelevant.

If you decide to email, it would be appreciated if you would add Jim’s email address to the Cc: field to make him aware of your views and queries. He will share them with the members of the Summerway Committee, keeping your email address confidential as he does so.  Jim’s email address is:

Be aware that Alan claims to understand perfectly what the Club is about, which perfect understanding is shared by his colleagues.  Exactly how this perfect understanding has been acquired is something of a mystery, because as far as Jim is aware, Alan has never visited the Club while it has been in session.  Jim has attended the vast majority of group sessions for more than two decades, but would only claim a superior understanding of what the Club is about.  Ah, well! We can’t all be ECC Officers, and live in an ivory tower.

To email Alan, please click the link below, and kindly copy your email to Jim.
