Exeter City Council to Mr D Craven at his home address dated 9 May 2007

Dear Dave

Summerway Pavilion

I have been liaising with Jude, but I understand she has now left the Club's committee. The City Council last week took ownership of the site. As we have not been able to reach agreement with the Club over its future occupation of the site, we have had to make a decision on the future of the pavilion.

We have had a condition survey undertaken and the pavilion has been found to be in rather poor condition. The estimated cost of repairs and alterations to bring it in to some sort of community use make it too prohibitive to be worth restoring and converting the building. Given its dilapidated condition, the building offers potential for break-in, arson and injury to naturally curious children. We have therefore decided to demolish it as soon as we can identify suitable funds and make the necessary arrangements.

I think you have probably removed everything of yours from the pavilion, except I did notice at least one tennis net there. Please let me know if you needs to recover it/them.

I'm disappointed that we have been unable to negotiate arrangements that are agreeable to us all, but I anticipate that the courts will be opened up for free public use in due course, and I wish you well in securing a facility for the Club to continue into the future.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Cowe
