Dear Sir/Madam

+

STRUCTURAL REVIEWS OF DEVON, NORFOLK AND SUFFOLK:

FURTHER DRAFT PROPOSALS

+

In February 2008, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government asked the Boundary Committee for England to advise her on unitary local government structures in Devon, Norfolk and Suffolk. In order to give the Secretary of State advice, we have been conducting reviews in each of these three counties and asking people for their views.

 +

In July 2008, the Boundary Committee for England published draft proposals for unitary local government in Devon, Norfolk and Suffolk. You helpfully responded to that consultation.

 +

Since starting the reviews, our process has been subject to legal challenge in the High Court. Additionally, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has issued new guidance to us. We are therefore today beginning a fresh round of consultation on further draft proposals for unitary local government in the three counties.

 +

We have published a report containing our further draft proposals in each county. These reports can be accessed via our website, at www.boundarycommittee.org.uk. We have also asked that the County Council and district councils make them available in hard copy at their offices, libraries and information points.

 +

The Committee has not finalised its conclusions and, in light of further evidence, may put forward advice to the Secretary of State which is different to what is in our further draft proposal reports. The Secretary of State has now extended the date by which we must provide advice to 15 July 2009.

 +

Your earlier representation will continue to be taken into account by the Committee. However, if you wish to provide any additional information please write to us. We also welcome the views and evidence of those we have not yet heard from.

 +

We welcome views on our reports by 14 May 2009. Representations can be made through our website, by emailing reviews@boundarycommittee.org.uk or by writing to:
