It is the opinion of the Author of this website that the leaders and administrators of a democratic society have certain responsibilities towards the people they govern.  He rates even-handedness and care for the less fortunate highly amongst those responsibilities.  ECC’s attitude and actions towards the Summerway Club shows that it does not agree.

Why is the Exeter City Council discriminating against the wider community?

Exeter City Council, in its reply to Ben Bradshaw MP dated 11th April 2007, manifestly equates tennis courts at the University with tennis courts at Summerway.  Clearly, ECC has glossed over the Club’s plans for expansion in its eagerness to earn kudos with the affluent and the influential. It poured £150,000 of taxpayers’ money into supporting those able to pay for their tennis, while denying a relatively tiny sum in support of volunteers providing affordable tennis to the wider community.  Should ECC be favouring an elite?
