Updates Noticeboard
This website is not the type that is updated daily. Its content receives additions and modifications as the site administrator has opportunity to post them, and the information displayed is but a small fraction of that which is available from the Club records. Periods of website inactivity will inevitably occur, but this will usually indicate activity in another field.
The purpose of the Updates Noticeboard is to flag up changes and additions to this website, provide news of anything of interest which may crop up, and allow regular visitors to check for new material. News items are quite likely to translate into detailed website pages in the course of time.

Exeter’s MP Obtains Responses from DCC and ECC
Ben Bradshaw MP has written on behalf of the Club and received responses from Devon County Council and Exeter City Council which are very illuminating. Jim has briefly acknowledged receipt of these and forwarded copies of the responses to the Summerway Committee, Families, Supporters and Watchers. As soon as time permits, Jim wishes to email Ben with his thanks and a fuller acknowledgement. This will only give opportunity to make a few broad points as Ben’s time is in high demand, making a full and detailed reply inappropriate.
The responses do need a full analysis, especially the one from Exeter City as Jim considers parts of it to be very misleading. These responses will almost certainly be examined in detail by the Club Committee at its next meeting. Watch this space!
Summer Sessions at the Heavitree Park Courts
They are far from being Summer Sessions as they used to be at Summerway, but a number of us are meeting down at the public courts in Heavitree Park as members of the public each Thursday Evening from 6.45pm onwards. Please join us whenever you can, but there is no guarantee that we will be able to get on court. It is pointed out that this is not Club organised activity, as the Club is now quiescent.
Devon LTA is backing ECC rather than the Club
Amongst documents obtained recently from Exeter City Council under the Freedom of Information Act was an unexpected and nasty surprise. An email exchange between the Chair of Devon LTA and the ECC Leisure Manager indicated that Devon LTA regards the Council as blameless in the events regarding the Club. Presumably, Devon LTA blames the Club entirely for what has happened. This renders negotiations between ECC and the Club pointless. As a result, Jim has emailed a request for a Full Enquiry by the Lawn Tennis Association, and the LTA has agreed to investigate the issues raised in the email and on this website. The Club’s email groups may receive bulletins on the investigation’s progress if and when appropriate, but these will not be posted on this website during the enquiry.
Website Updates. Demolition of the Clubhouse.
The Author of this website apologises for the lack of recent updates, which has been caused by the enormous amount of recent activity relating to the Club. There is a great deal which needs to be posted, but this must wait for priorities to permit.
Sadly, the clubhouse, so aptly described in Ace Magazine (Dec 1997), has just been demolished by Exeter City Council. Negotiations between the Club and the Council are ongoing as far as the Club is concerned, and we were expecting to meet with ECC representatives after the holiday period. The Council’s action seems precipitate and unnecessary, but it has to be acknowledged that ECC has shown intent by leaving the clubhouse exposed to vandals, with predictable results.
It is essential that any moral crimes committed by Exeter City Council against its citizens, especially the children, the local community and the Club, are eventually fully and fairly scrutinised, and restitution made to all those who have been deprived and hurt by the domineering attitudes and actions of those responsible. Please note, this is not an implied criticism of the Council as a whole, just of those responsible.
Summerway Summarised in a Short Video
Jim has made a short video lasting ninety seconds which gives a very potted history of the Club, and which calls on ECC to make restitution. This will be incorporated into a DVD with other material, which may be used as a resource by those wishing to actively support the Club. Other efforts will be made to disseminate this item of publicity. Jim is extremely grateful to Steve for freely applying his considerable video editing expertise to the project, and to all other friends who participated.
